[HAI5014] Week 1: Getting Ready
Get ready for this semester’s Human-AI Interaction course by following the instructions below:
1. Fill in the class survey:

2. Sign up for Azure for Students
During this course we will touch on the basic concepts in Cloud Computing and explore several services in the Microsoft Azure platform that are available to students for free. Use the link below to subscribe and make sure to check if you received the $100 credit that we will use to pay for inference of the Azure OpenAI GPT-4 API.
Use your university or school email to sign up via https://azure.microsoft.com/free/students
Check if your student benefits got activate via https://portal.azure.com/#blade/Microsoft_Azure_Education/EducationMenuBlade
If your credit got activated succesfully, your Eduction pane should look like this:
3. GitHub Student Developer Pack
We will be using several GitHub services during the semester, such as GitHub Copilot and Codespaces, which are available for free to students who sign up for the GitHub Student Developer Pack.
To verify your student status and get access to these services, follow these steps:
- Create a Github Account if you don’t have any yet
- Make sure that the name on your public profile matches with the name on your student ID (can be changed later)
- Prepare Your Enrollment Document:
- Make sure you have a printed or digital version of your university’s enrollment document or ID
- It must include your name, university name, a school official’s signature or stamp, and a valid date (e.g., current semester or academic year)
- Sign Up for the GitHub Student Developer Pack:
- Go to GitHub Student Developer Pack
- Click “Get Student Benefits” and follow the instructions to verify your student status
- You may need to upload your enrollment document as proof
- Wait for Approval:
- Verification usually takes a few days. You’ll receive an email once it’s approved
- If your request is denied, check GitHub’s guidelines and try again with a clearer document
4. DYOR: Do your own research
Prepare answers to the following questions for next class:
- What is the difference between a programming language and a markdown language?
- What are some examples of programming languages and markdown languages?
